The Topperettes, St. Edward’s dance team, compete for first time in five years

The Topperettes dance team, which was defunct since Spring 2023 and recently revived last Fall by students Maria Garcia and manager Madeline Cress, competed at a National Collegiate Competition –: the American Dance/Drill Team Competition (ADTS) — in Denton, Texas on March 23. The team won Third Runner-Up Overall in Division II.

Contracommon’s “Bodies Akin” gallery highlights local artists’ takes on the art of the human figure

Contracommon is an artist-run non-profit devoted to fostering the development of local artists located in Bee Cave’s Hill Country Galleria. The space includes multiple studios, event space and an experimental gallery space with rotating exhibitions. The current theme, “Bodies Akin,” is a figurative show focusing on the human figure from the varying perspectives of a plethora of Texas based artists.

Successive student-led protest calls for no confidence vote by faculty

A second student-led protest is occurring tomorrow on the university Seal at 1:30 p.m. as a response to a call to action. The post advertising the protest on Instagram says the purpose of the subsequent protest is to “demand a vote of ‘no confidence’ for President (Montserrat) Fuentes and Provost Marianne Ward-Peradoza.”

Women’s basketball team mentors students from Travis Heights for another year

The St. Edward’s women’s basketball team continues an in-person mentorship program for the second year in a row with local elementary school, Travis Heights. Their responsibilities include weekly meetings with the student, helping with homework and playing basketball with them. At the end of the season, the students attend a game to cheer on their mentors.

Senior screening showcases an array of short films from photography majors

Photography seniors held a screening to showcase their short films on March 29 in the Carter Auditorium. Their physical art exhibit is available for viewing in the Fine Arts building’s gallery from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through April 10.
